Teri Junge, CST, CSFA, FAST, BS - Program Director

Ms. Junge has been in practice since 1974 when she completed her training in Milwaukee, WI. Since then she has worked as a Surgical Technologist in the midwest, southern California, and Colorado. As the Education Coordinator for the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) and later in the publications department, she wrote several articles for publication in The Surgical Technologist, participated on the Core Curriculum revision committee (5th edition), was a vital member of the team that wrote and edited all three editions of Surgical Technology for the Surgical Technologist: A Positive Care Approach, and helped develop many educational products (such as the Study Guide, Instructor’s manual, and the video series) to accompany the textbook. Ms. Junge began development of the Surgical Technology Program at San Joaquin Valley College in 2003, and since that time has been featured in Who's Who Among American Teachers, been awarded AST Educator of the Year, and was inducted as a Fellow in the Association of Surgical Technologists. Ms. Junge received her Associate of Applied Science degree in Surgical Technology from Anthem College, holds a Bachelor of Health Services Administration from Baker College, and is currently completing a Master of Arts in Education: Curriculum and Instruction at California State University, Fresno.  She is a Fellow of the Association of Surgical Technologists and serves on the California State Assembly Board of Directors.

Jennifer Soderman, CST, CSFA, AA - Clinical Coordinator/Instructor

Mrs. Soderman began her career as a Surgical Technologist in 1991 as a graduate of the US Army School of Health Sciences. Her eighteen years of practical experience in the field have made her an expert in many surgical specialties such as general, orthopedic, endoscopic, laparoscopic, podiatry, pediatric, vascular, nuerological, ophthalmic, trauma, urological, bariatric, thoracic, plastic, and reconstructive surgical procedures. Her past experience also includes supply and materials management expertise. Mrs. Soderman earned her Associate in Arts in General Studies degree from Fresno City College and has been teaching in the Surgical Technology Program since 2006.  She is currently completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education with emphasis in adult education.  Mrs. Soderman is a member of the Association of Surgical Technologists and the AST California State Assembly.

Douglas J. Hughes, CST, CSFACSACRCST, BAS - Instructor

Mr. Hughes is a former student of the SJVC Fresno Surgical Technology Program. After completing his Associate of Science degree in Surgical Technology at SJVC, he relocated to Boise, ID and began a career as a Surgical Technologist specializing in orthopedics. Mr. Hughes completed his Surgical First Assistant training at Meridian Institute of Surgical Assisting and went on to specialize as a Surgical First Assistant in complex orthopedic and spinal procedures. Mr. Hughes also holds credentials in Sterile Processing and Materials Management and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Boise State University.  He is also currently working toward a Master of Arts in Education degree with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from California State University, Fresno.  Mr. Hughes currently serves as the national Vice President of the Association of Surgical Assistants and is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Association of Surgical Technologists, the National Surgical Assistant Association, and the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management.
